Indian Army Day 2022: The Army Day is celebrated on 15th January every year in honour of the first Commander in Chief of Indian Army i.e. Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa. On this historic day, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa took over charge from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last Commander In Chief of India. To make this day special, the Indian Army organizes parades and, other military shows in various military headquarters. The Chief of Army Staff pays tribute to our brave soldiers who have laid their life in service of the Nation. In the year 2022, we are going to celebrate 74th Indian Army Day with same pride and enthusiasm so that future generation can learn about services of Indian Army.

Army Day Celebration: Highlights

Army Day Parade: A grand parade is organized on the occasion of Army Day in Cariappa Parade ground in Delhi Cantonment. After completion of the parade event, various gallantry awards are given to the brave soldiers. The aim to honour our soldiers is to remember the sacrifice of Indian Army while protecting this great Nation and to inspire the youth of this country to come forward and join Indian Army and serve the Nation.

Combat and Contingent Display: On the occasion of Army Day, combat and contingent display is also practiced. The Military shows its hardware, weapons and different tactics of war. This show of Arms and ammunition aims to give message to the world about India’s might and also inspire country’s youth to join Indian Army.

Why we celebrate Indian Army Day?

As stated above, the Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15th January every year in remembrance of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa’s taking over the charge of first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. He replaced the General Fransis Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India on 15th January 1949. Indian Army organizes Parade and other military programme to make this day special. Gallentary awards are distributed to the soldiers who have made supreme sacrifice and services to this Nation.
