The aim behind observing 12th January as National Youth Day is to educate people especially youth of the country, about Swami Vivekananda and his principles. National Youth Day is also known as Yuva Diwas. Swami Vivekananda was a youth icon and his teachings are still guiding youth to make a greater nation. National Youth Day: History

The Government of India in the year 1984, decided to celebrate the 12th January i.e. birthday of Swami Vivekananda as National Youth Day or Yuva Diwas every year. The Union Government observed that ‘the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth’. He was a great nationalist who believes that the youth of the country is the real resources of the Nation and youth can play a significant role in nation-building.

National Youth Day 2022: Theme

The Government of India sets a different theme each year to celebrate Yuva Diwas to make it more meaningful and exciting so that a maximum number of people can join the spirit of this day. The theme for the year 2022 is yet to be finalized. Here are a few themes of previous years:

National Youth Day or Yuva Diwas is celebrated throughout the country with great passion. On this day, schools organize various activities including essay writing, debate, group discussion on issues of national importance, sports tournaments to prepare students for future India. Blood donation camps are also organized where people take part voluntarily. These competitions encourage students to do something for the country and increase their knowledge about National heroes like Swami Vivekanand Ji. On this day, the institutions such as Ramkrishan Math and other missions celebrate this day by promoting the thoughts of great saint Swami Vivekananda.

About Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda’s earlier name was Narendra Nath Dutta. Vivekananda ji was born in a very simple Bengali family. He was born on 12th January 1863 in Kolkata and died on 4th July 1902. Vishwanath Dutta and Bhuvaneshwari Devi were his father and mother. The untimely death of his father pushed the family into a big financial crunch. Despite being good in education, Swami Vivekanand failed to get work for meeting the family need. There are two famous saying of this great leader are as under:

Swami Vivekanand was a great patriotic and his all actions were towards the national interest. In 1893, his famous speech in the Parliament of World’s Religions in Chicago was widely recognized by the world. He spoke about Hinduism, Indian Culture and the importance of Indian culture. The teaching and philosophy of Swami Ji are globally recognized and people are motivated to do something for the country. The moto of celebrating 12th January as National Youth Day is to keep people motivated so that youth can contribute to nation-building.
