World Health Day 2021-2022: Theme, Objective, Date (7th April)

World Health Day 2021: It is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7th April under the sponsorship of World Health Organization and other concerned organizations. The objective of celebrating World Health Day on 7th April every year is to spread awareness about healthcare and access to healthcare without the prospect of financial hardship. This day, a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization is designed to promote health awareness among the people. The first Health Assembly in this regard held in the year 1948 and the celebration of World Health Day on 7th April came into force from 1950.

Over the last 50 years, some of the important health issues have been brought into light like mental health, maternal and child care and climate change. The celebration is marked by the activities which extend beyond the day itself and serves as an opportunity to focus global attention to these important aspects of world health.

World Health Day 2021: Building a fairer, healthier world

The World Health Day 2021 on the theme ‘building a fairer, healthier world’ will be celebrated on 7th April 2021. The importance of health and wellness is very crucial in the time of pandemic COVID19. WHO and other related organization will celebrate this day to send a message of building a fairer, healthier world. India has already gained a very good publicity due to its humanitarian work done in the past one year against fighting Corona Virus. We hope India will play a crucial role in the global health and wellness. At present, India is exporting COVID vaccine to the entire world and also offering free vaccine to the friendly nations.

Support Nurses and Midwives (2020)

In the year 2020, keeping in mind the COVID19 global pandemic, the theme aimed at nursing staff of health departments of the world.  Hence, the name of the theme was “Support Nurses and Midwives”.  On this day, the whole world thanked the healthcare workers on the frontline battling the coronavirus. The efforts were made for raising funds for the COVID19 solidarity response fund..

Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere (2019)

The theme of World Health Day for the year 2019 was “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”, a repeat of the 2018 theme, with an emphasis on the idea that “Universal Health Coverage is the WHO’s number one goal”.  The WHO launched a campaign to sign a petition for health for all, held a Facebook live event and primary health care at universal health coverage “statistics and facts”.

Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere (2018)

World Health Day 2018 theme, “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”, focused that health is a fundamental human right and all human being must have access to the health care. ‘Health for All” was the main slogan of the event.  This theme was again repeated in the year 2019.

Depression: Let’s Talk (2017)

World Health Day 2017 was celebrated with the theme ‘Let’s Talk’ and it was aimed to mobilize action on depression. Depression affects all age group people irrespective of their profession, country and gender etc. The problem depression impacts people’s capability to complete tasks, family relations, friends and community also, work place and health care facility. Depression can lead to self isolation and suicide also. Timely treatment and better understanding of depression can help a lot  in treatment and prevention of disease.

Diabetes (2016)

In the year 2016, the theme of World Health Day was ‘Diabetes’. In today’s world, cases of diabetes are rising due to improper life style, junk food etc. A timely diagnosis, proper check-ups can reduce further complications. It can be controlled and managed to prevent complications by physical exercise, weight loss and healthy diet. The goal of WHD 2016 was to scale up prevention and secondly to strengthen care and third to enhance surveillance.
