The Ministry of Tribal Affairs invites applications for National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students through online mode. The candidates belonging to ST category who are pursuing Fellowship programmes such as M.Phil and Ph.D. courses can apply for this scholarship scheme. Under this scheme, the government is helping the ST category students by providing them financial assistance to pursue higher studies. Eligibility Criteria

The candidates belonging to ST category should fulfil the following norms in order to apply for this fellowship/scholarship award:

Fellowship:

  • The applicant should have completed Post Graduation from a recognized university.
  • The candidate must be registered or admitted for a regular full-time M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes in an institute recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) of UGC Act/ICAR.
  • The applicants must fulfil the prescribed UGC/ICAR norms for qualifying Senior Research Fellowship.

Scholarship:

  • The applicants must have taken admission in the institutes identified and notified by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • The family income of the applicant should not exceed 6 lakh annually.

Benefits under this Scholarship

Fellowship

  • Total 750 fellowships will be awarded under this scheme.
  • For M.Phil, the students will be awarded:
    • A Fellowship amount of Rs.25,000/- per month.
    • A contingency amount of Rs.10,000/- per annum for Humanities & Social Sciences and Rs.12,000/- per annum for Science, Engineering and Technology.
    • HRA as per the prescribed rules of the respective institute.
    • Escorts/reader assistance of Rs.2000/- per month for physically handicapped and blind candidates.
  • For Ph.D. Programme, the students will be awarded:
    • 28,000/- per month as a fellowship amount.
    • A contingency amount of Rs.10,000/- per annum for Humanities & Social Sciences and Rs.12000/- per annum for Science, Engineering and Technology.
    • Escorts/reader assistance of Rs.2000/- per month for physically handicapped and blind candidates

Scholarship

  • Total 1000 scholarships will be awarded.
  • Full tuition fee with a maximum ceiling of Rs.2.5 lakhs per annum will be covered under this scholarship.
  • 3000/- annually to each student for books and stationery will be provided.
  • 2200/- per month with a maximum ceiling of Rs.26400/- annually will be provided as living expenses.
  • 45000/- will be provided as one-time assistance for computer and its accessories.

National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students 2020-21: How to Apply

  • Visit the website of the National Scholarship Portal i.e. https://scholarships.gov.in/.
  • Click on the ‘New Registration’ link on the homepage.
  • Read all the instructions carefully ad select the undertaking and continue.
  • Fill name, father name, date of birth, correspondence address, e-mail ID and mobile number, State etc. in the registration form.
  • Also provide bank details such as Bank Account Number, Bank Name and IFSC Code.
  • Then Select Aadhar or Bank Account Number as identification details and then click on the “Register” button.
  • Candidates will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number.
  • Now login using application ID and password and complete further application part.
  • Candidates should fill only one application form as more than one application will be rejected.
  • Submit the application form in the end and take the printout of the same for future reference.

Selection Procedure

The following things will be considered for selection of the eligible candidates:

  • The competent authority will verify the information provided by the students in the application form.
  • The candidate’s original documents will be scrutinized to ascertain his/her eligibility.
  • All the applications will be processed as per the number of slots for different sub-categories.
  • Merit list of the qualified candidates will be placed on the official portal which candidates can access easily.

Terms and Conditions

Fellowship:

  • The ST category students selected for the fellowship cannot claim any other scholarship of the Central or State Government.
  • The fellowship shall be payable once the applicant has obtained admission in and started research work.
  • In the case of Ph.D., the fellowship will be available for a maximum 5 years duration and 2 years for M.Phil programme.

Scholarship:

  • The scholarship shall be payable once students secured admission and start attending classes.
  • The scholarship awarded to the students will continue till completion of the course and subject to satisfactory performance of the student.
  • The duration of the scholarship depends on the candidate’s course duration.
