National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education 2020 -21

The ‘National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education’ is a Central Sector Scheme which was launched in May 2008. The scheme is aimed to encourage the education of the girl child of 14 to 18 years of age group at the secondary stage, who passes class 8th exam and facing problems in further education due to socio-economic reasons. Eligibility Criteria

  • All SC/ST girl students who pass class 8th can apply.
  • Girls who pass class 8th exam from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (irrespective of whether they belong to SC or ST) and enroll for class 9th in State/UT government, Government-aided or local body schools.
  • The age of applicant should not exceed 16 years as on 31st March of the admission year.
  • Married girls and girls who are studying in private unaided schools or enrolled in schools run by Central Government are exclude from this scheme.

National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education: How to Apply

The candidates can check following guidelines for submitting application form:

  • Step 1: The application form will be available in hard copy at District Education Officers or Principals of Schools. The applicants or school can fill the application form. The duly filled application form in the excel sheet will be compiled by School’s Principal and which will be sent to District Education Officers either through e-mail or on CD and hard copy.
  • Step 2: The District Education Officer will log in with user ID and password generated by the State Nodal Officer and send on registered mobile number.
  • Step 3: The State Nodal Officer will use Date Signature Certificate for data submission while submitting th data from State to this department on NSP. Candidates must provide a valid mobile number.

Benefits under this Scheme

The selected students will receive a sum of Rs.3000/- which will be deposited in the bank account or post office account of the applicant. The terms of the scheme will be considered from the date of deposit to the date on which applicants or girl child attains the age of 18 years.

The process to be followed

  • The competent authority (State/UT Government or the autonomous body as the case may be) will open an account in the name of the beneficiary girl in any post office or nearest public sector bank.
  • A passbook or account book will be provided to the applicant for further reference in the future.
  • In order to obtain the benefits of the scheme, the girl child has to continue her study for at least two years in secondary school after enrollment in 9th The Principal/ Head of the School will issue a certificate in this regard.
  • To draw the matured amount, the beneficiary must pass the class 10th Board exam successfully.
  • The beneficiary on attaining the age of 18 years, has to produce 10th class passing certificate, a certificate from the Principal or Head of the School that the beneficiary has continued her study for at least two years after admission in 9th class then the concerned authority will authorize the bank or post office to transfer the matured amount with interest to the beneficiary account.
