World Day of Social Justice 2022: Theme, History, Objective

World Day of Social Justice 2022 will be celebrated on 20th February every year. The objective behind celebrating World Social justice Day is to raise objections or voices against social injustice. In this regard, International Labour Organization signed a declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization. Eliminating poverty, caste and physical discrimination, illiteracy, social and religious discrimination are key objectives to address through this day.  The theme of the previous year was ‘A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy’. The idea behind announcing 20th February as world social justice day was to achieve sustainable development, eradication of poverty, economic growth, gender equality, and universal equality of the human being.

The Theme of the World Social Justice Day for the current year is yet to be announced. Last year theme was ‘A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy’.

Once the theme for the current year is announced, the same will be updated. Sustainable development, universal social protection, promotion of employment, gender equality, poverty eradication and social upliftment are the key factors that are always on priority.

World Day of Social Justice: History

The UG General Assembly in its 63rd session on 26th November 2007, declared that the 20th February will be celebrated as World Day of Social Justice. Since then, every year 20th February is celebrated as social justice day worldwide. The International Labour Organization unanimously adopted the declaration on Social justice for fair globalization on 10th June 2008.
