SSC CGL Syllabus: Tier I Exam

The SSC CGL Tier I exam is an online test held on computer systems. All the questions in this exam are objective type in nature. The exam comprises four sections and each section will contain 25 questions. Total 100 questions are asked in this exam. SSC CGL Tier I Exam will be of 200 marks and the duration of exam will be 60 minutes and 80 minutes (for physically handicapped persons). The four sections under Tier I exam are as below:

SSC CGL Exam Pattern: Highlights

  • The candidates should go through the SSC CGL exam pattern in order to understand the examination scheme.

SSC CGL Syllabus: Tier II Exam

The SSC CGL Tier II exam has four papers which are as under:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude: The paper of quantitative aptitude will be of 200 marks. The duration of this exam will be 2 hours.
  2. English Language & Comprehension: This paper will be of 200 marks. Test duration will be 2 hours.
  3. Statistics: It will have 200 marks and 2 hours duration.
  4. General Studies- Finance & Economics: This paper will be of 200 marks and 2 hours duration.

Highlights of the SSC CGL Tier II Exam Pattern

  • Paper I and Paper II are mandatory for all the posts.
  • Paper III will be for those who are appearing for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for this particular post/paper.
  • Paper IV will be for the candidates who are appearing for the post of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer. Candidates must qualify the Tier I exam.
  • Negative marking is applicable in this exam. There will be deduction of 0.25 marks for every wrong attempt for Paper II and 0.50 marks for Paper I, Paper III and Paper IV.

SSC CGL Tier III Syllabus

The SSC CGL Tier III exam is a descriptive type papers which will be held through offline mode. The candidates must understand the Tier III syllabus as it requires a good command on subject for explaining things in good manner. Candidate’s writing skill in English/Hindi, language proficiency, grammar knowledge and vocabulary usage etc. will be evaluated in Tier III exam.

There will be Essay writing, précis, application writing and letter etc. in this section. The duration of Tier SSC CGL Tier III exam is 60 minutes.

  • The candidates should have good writing skill in English/Hindi.
  • Candidates should fill choice of language very carefully.
  • The applicants should score minimum 33% marks in order to qualify the exam.
  • Candidates are recommended to write with good hand writing and ensure each word is readable.

SSC CGL Tier IV Syllabus

The SSC CGL Tier IV exam consists of skill test which is required for some government posts. The applicants must qualify all the previous exams (Tier I, II, III) for appearing in the Skill Test.

Important Points

  • Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) applicants for the post of Tax Assistant in CBDT need not appear for the Skill test.
  • OH Candidates opting for the post of Tax Assistant in CBEC have to attend the skill test.
