The Indian Military Academy (IMA) Deharadun is a renowned Military institute in the Country which nurtures the future leaders of our armed forces. The IMA, Dehradun is basically an officer training academy of the Indian Army situated in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It was established in the year 1932 as per recommendation of the Military Committee. Those who want to serve Indian Army as an officer must know the selection process of the Army officers. The Indian Military Academy trains its graduates with highest standard of Indian Military. Candidates are trained to lead from the front. Training of highest moral and ethical values, combat training and use of technology in present scenario are given to candidates.

How can I get an entry in Indian Military Academic (IMA) Dehradun?

The cadets are selected to IMA through different exams. Basically there are four main entries to get admission into IMA. There are as below:

  1. Through CDS Exam: Combined Defence Services Exam is one of the main exam through which candidates can join the IMA. Male candidates can join the IMA after passing the CDS exam. Those who are in final year of the Graduation or completed graduation can apply for CDS exam. After qualifying the CDS exam, clear the SSB, pass medical test and join IMA as a direct entry as per the merit list. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts CDS exam twice in a year.
  2. Through NDA Exam: The candidates who want to join Indian Military Academy Dehradun can also join the institute after qualifying NDA exam. The NDA exam is also conducted by UPSC. Candidates have to qualify written exam followed by SSB, medical test for joining the IMA. Male candidates who have passed 12th exam or appearing in the 12th class exam can apply for NDA Exam. They should have Physics and Mathematics as main subjects in the qualifying exam. Age of the candidates must be within 16.5 to 19.5 years for applying to NDA exam.
  3. Through University Entry Scheme: Those who are in Pre-final/Final year of the engineering can apply for admission into IMA under this scheme. Candidates must have secured 60% marks in the previous exam and must be within 20 to 25 years age. No exam is there, selection of the candidates will be held through SSB interview.
  4. Through Technical Graduate Course (TGC): Candidates, who are pursing technical courses such as BE/B.Tech. in the concerned stream can also join IMA. They must pass SSB Interview to get an entry in the institute. Age of the applicants must be within 19 to 25 years.

Required Physical Standards for Joining IMA

Apart from meeting the basic eligibility norms, candidates must be physically and mentally fit. Physical fitness is one of the pre-condition which everyone must fulfil before joining to IMA. Here are the some basic facts with regard to physical fitness:

Common Physical Requirements for All Candidates

  • Applicant must be physically and mentally fit.
  • There should no physical disability otherwise candidature will be cancelled.
  • There should be no bone related disease.
  • Candidate should have well developed chest having at least 5 cms expansion.
  • Medical team will examine urine, in case of any abnormality candidature will be rejected.
  • Any heart related problem, blood pressure, diabetes etc should not be there.
  • Basically an overall examination of physical standards and medical fitness will be taken. Final decision on admission will be taken only after clearing physical and medical fitness.
