Section A-Fundamental of Accounting: 60 Marks

  • Accounting Process: Fundamental errors including rectifications thereof, Capital and Revenue Expenditure, Books of Accounts leading to the preparation of Trial Balance, Contingent assets and contingent liabilities, Capital and revenue receipts
  • Theoretical Framework: Accounting Concepts, Meaning & Scope of Accounting, Accounting Standard – concepts, objectives, benefits, Principles and Conventions, Accounting Policies, Accounting as measurement discipline-valuation principles, accounting estimates.
  • Introduction to Company Accounts: Issue of shares and debentures, re-issue of forfeited shares, forfeiture of shares, the redemption of preference shares.
  • Accounting for Special Transactions: Sale of goods on approval or return basis, Consignments, Joint Ventures, Bills of exchange and promissory notes.
  • Partnership Accounts: Final accounts of partnership firms-Basic concepts of admission, the death of a partner including treatment of goodwill and retirement.
  • Depreciation Accounting: Methods, Change in depreciation methods, computation and accounting treatment of depreciation.
  • Bank Reconciliation Statement.
  • Preparation of Final Accounts for Sole Proprietors.

Section B-Mercantile Law: 40 Marks

  • The Indian Contract Act, 1872: An overview of Sections 1 to 75 covering the general nature of the contract, consideration, other essential elements of a valid contract, breach of contract and performance of the contract.
  • The Sale of Goods Act, 1930: Transfer of ownership and delivery of goods, Formation of the contract of sale, Conditions and Warranties, Unpaid seller and his rights.
  • The Indian Partnership Act, 1932: Rights and duties of partners, General Nature of Partnership and Registration and dissolution of a firm.

Section C-General Economics: 50 Marks

(I) Micro Economics

  • Theory of Demand and Supply: (a) Law of Demand and Elasticity of Demand-Price, Meaning and determinants of demand and income and cross elasticity, (b) Theory of consumer’s behavior-Marshallian approach and Indifference curve approach and (c) Law of Supply and Elasticity of supply, Meaning and determinants of supply.
  • Introduction to Micro Economics: (a) Central problems of an economy and Production possibilities curve, (b) Definition, scope, and nature of Economics and (c) Methods of economics study.
  • Price Determination in Different Markets:(a) Various forms of markets: Monopoly, Perfect Competition, Monopolistic Competition and Oligopoly, and (b) Price determination in these markets.
  • Theory of Production and Cost: (a) Laws of Production- Law of Returns to Scale, the Law of Variable Proportions, (b) Meaning and Factors of production, (c) Concepts of Costs- Short-run and Long-run Costs, Average and Marginal Costs, Total, fixed and variable costs.

 (II) Indian Economic Development

  • Indian Economy: A Profile- (a) Role of different sectors- Agriculture, Industry and Services in the development of the Indian Economy, their problems and growth, (b) Nature of the Indian Economy, (c) National Income of India-Concepts of national income, Growth of national income and per capita income in various Plans, Different methods of measuring national income, (d) Basic understanding of tax system of India-Direct and Indirect Taxation.
  • Economic Reforms in India: (a) Privatization, Disinvestment and Liberalization (b) Features of economic reforms since 1991, (c) Globalization.
  • Money and Banking:(a) Money-Meaning and functions, (b) Reserve Bank of India-Role and functions, Monetary policy, (c) Commercial Banks-Role and functions.
  • Select Aspects of Indian Economy: (a) Poverty – Absolute and relative poverty and main programs for poverty alleviation, (b) Population–Its size, rate of growth and its implication for growth, (c) Infrastructure–Energy, Transportation, Communication, Health and Education, (d) Unemployment–Types, Causes and incidence of unemployment, (e) Inflation, (f) Balance of payments, (g) Budget and Fiscal deficits, (h) External debts

Section D- Quantitative Aptitude: 50 Marks

  • Equations: (a) Linear-simultaneous linear equations up to three variables (b) Graphical solution to linear equations, (c) quadratic and cubic equations in one variable, (d) intersection of straight lines, (e) equations of a straight line
  • Basic concepts of Calculus (Differential and Integral excluding trigonometric functions)
  • Simple Interest and Compound Interest including annuity ─ Applications
  • Inequalities– Graphs of Inequalities in two variables
  • Sequence and Series–Arithmetic Progression and Geometric progressions
  • Basic concepts of Permutations and Combinations
  • Sets, Functions, and Relations
  • Statistical description of data– (a)Textual, Tabular & Diagrammatic representation of data, (b) Frequency Distribution, (c) Graphical representation of frequency distribution-Frequency Polygon, Histogram
  • Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion-Arithmetic Mean, Geometric Mean and Harmonic Mean, Mode, Median–Partition Values, Standard deviation, Quartile deviation.
