Dadasaheb Phalke award is the supreme award in the field of cinema. The award is named after the father of Indian Cinema i.e. Late Dadasaheb Phalke. Shri Dadasaheb Phalke made the first Indian feature film namely Raja Harishchandra in the year 1913. Therefore, in the honor of Dadasaheb Phalke, the Government of India started the prestigious cine award i.e. Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1969.
It is a dream of every person who is part of Indian Cine Industry to get the Dadasaheb Phalke award. The award is given for ‘outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema’. The competent authority selects the eligible person for this award after analyzing his/her contribution to the Indian film industry.
This award is presented on annual basis to the Indian film personalities to recognize their contribution to the Indian cine world. The Directorate of Film Festival under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presented the award to the nominated person at the National Film Awards ceremony.
Shri Amitabh Bachchan has been selected for the 66th Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 2018 while Shri Vinod Khanna was awarded for the year 2017. The award consists of a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs.10/- lakh. Ms. Devika Rani was the first recipient of prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award during the 17th National Films Awards ceremony.
