The Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for colleges and universities is a centrally sponsored scheme, which is aimed to provide financial assistance to the eligible and meritorious students belonging to the economically weaker section. It is basically a merit cum means scholarship run by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Human Resource & Development. Students seeking higher education (UG/PG degree course) after completing the 12th standard can seek benefits from this scholarship scheme. The applicants must fulfil the requisite norms for applying to this scholarship scheme. Under this scheme, the scholarship is awarded to 82,000 candidates pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate courses. Objective of the Central Sector Scholarship

The main objective of this scholarship scheme is to help the meritorious students who are economically weak and facing problems to complete their higher studies.  Such candidates, who are lacking monetary resources, can seek benefits from the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme. The award of the scholarship is totally merit-based process. The competent authority awards the scholarship and provided designated funds to the selected candidate for his/her expenses incurred during undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Central Sector Scholarship: Important Dates

The registration dates for the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme are generally announced in the month of July each year. The closing date of the application form will be the last week of October 2021. However, the application date may differ from one year to another year. Central Sector Scholarship Scheme Eligibility Criteria

The applicants who want to get financial assistance from the Government under the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme must fulfil the minimum basic eligibility requirements. The eligibility requirement for Central Sector Scholarship Scheme 2021-22 are as below:

  • The students should have scored a minimum 80% percentile of Successful candidates in the respective stream in the class 12th exam for applying to this merit cum means scholarship.
  • He/she must be in the top 20th percentile merit list in the 12th standard class of the concerned education board (CBSE/ICSE/SEB).
  • Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, OBC, PwD) will be eligible to get reservation benefits of 15%, 7.5%, 27%, and 5% respectively.
  • The annual income of the candidates’ family must not be greater than 8 Lakh Rupees.
  • Remember candidates should not have benefits of any other scholarship.
  • Those, who are pursuing a diploma course, can not apply for this Central Sector Scholarship Scheme.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme: Application Process

The candidates must know the application process for the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme. Application form for this merit cum means scholarship can be accessed online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Check the following steps with regard to the Central Sector Scholarship application form:

  • The candidates need to access National Scholarship Portal for an online application form.
  • Applicants have to register first as a new user.
  • Click on the New Registration tab and fill all the crucial information for registration.
  • After successful registration, the application ID and password will be generated and sent to the registered e-mail ID and mobile number. The candidate must change the password.
  • Log in with the user ID and password on the NSP website and access the application form.
  • Provide necessary information such as personal details, academic qualification detail, correspondence address, contact, and scheme details.
  • Upload the necessary documents which are required in support of eligibility and identity.
  • Check all the information entered in the application form very carefully and if there is any modification, do the same.
  • Submit the application form at the end and take the printout of the same for future reference.

Note: The competent authority will assess candidates’ eligibility by verifying the documents. The verification process will be held at two levels- one at the level of the institute where the student is studying in the UG/PG course and the other one at the school level from where the candidate passed the 12th standard.

The candidates have to keep ready a few documents which are essential in terms of ascertaining eligibility. The list of these documents is as below:

  • Aadhar Card Number (If Aadhar Card is not allotted then Aadhar enrollment ID, Driving License, Voter ID card, PAN Card and Passport etc. can be considered).
  • Bank Account Passbook in the name of the applicant
  • Category certificate if applicable
  • Income certificate of the applicant’s family
  • Disability certificate in case of Ph.D. candidates
  • 12th standard mark sheet and certificate

Central Sector Scholarship 2021-22: Renewal Policy

The selected candidates as per the merit will receive scholarship assistance for a period of 5 years for both graduation and post-graduation. However, the candidates’ stream should be the same in both graduation and post-graduation. The candidates must meet the following norms for renewal of the scholarship scheme:

  • The applicant must have score a minimum 50% marks or more in the previous exam.
  • The attendance of the student should be at least 75%.
  • He/she should not be involved in any type of ragging activity.
  • The applicants can apply online on NSP for renewing the scholarship scheme.
