CDS Eligibility Criteria 2022: The Union Public service Commission being an exam conducting authority has prescribed some pre-conditions to appear in the CDS exam. Each candidate needs to fulfill the eligibility requirements and should apply only after verifying CDS eligibility criteria. Interested candidates who want to pursue their career in Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy as commissioned officers can ascertain their educational qualification, age as per the information given below in this article. CDS (1) 2022 Exam dates have been finalized by the UPSC and as per the official announcement, the CDS I 2022 and CDS II 2022 exam are scheduled to be held on 10th April 2022 and 4th September 2022 respectively.

CDS Eligibility Criteria 2022

Aspirants can check the following information in order to ensure their eligibility to appear in the CDS 2022 exam:

Nationality/Citizenship

  • Applicant must be an Indian citizen or
  • A subject of Bhutan or Nepal or a Tibetan refugee, who is settled here since 1st January 1962.
  • An Indian origin person migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma and East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zaire, Vietnam or Ethiopia with intention to settle in India permanently.

Note: Candidates belonging to other countries have to submit a certificate of eligibility issued by the GOI. However, it is exempted in case of Gorkha candidates of Nepal.

Age Limit, Marital Status and Sex

Indian Military Academy (IMA)
  • Age: Candidates should not be born earlier than 2nd January 1999 and not later than 1st January 2004.
  • Minimum Age: 20 years and Maximum: 24 years.
  • Marital Status: Unmarried
  • Sex: Male
Indian Naval Academy (INA)
  • Age: Candidates must not be born earlier than 2nd January 1999 and not later than 1st January 2004.
  • Minimum Age Limit: 20 years and Upper Age limit: 24 years.
  • Marital Status: Unmarried
  • Sex: Male
Air Force Academy (AFA)
  • Age: As on 1st January 2023, candidates should be born between 2nd January 1999 to 1st January 2003.
  • Minimum Age: 20 years and Maximum: 24 years.
  • Marital Status: Unmarried
  • Sex: Male
Officers Training Academy (SSC Course for Men)
  • Age: Candidates should not be born earlier than 2nd January 1998 and not later than 1st January 2004.
  • Marital Status: Unmarried or Married.
  • Sex: Male
Officer Training Academy ( SSC Women Non-Technical Course)
  • Age: Applicants should not be born earlier than 2nd January 1998 and not later than 1st January 2004.
  • Marital Status: Unmarried women, issue less widows/divorcees who have not remarried are eligible.
  • Sex: Female

Educational Qualification

  • For I.M.A. and Officers Training Academy: Candidates must hold a degree of a recognized University or equivalent.  
  • For Indian Naval Academy: A bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized University or equivalent and
  • Air Force Academy: A bachelor’s degree from a recognized University with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering.

Note: Candidates who are appearing in the final year/semester of the qualifying exam can also apply provided they should qualify the exam. Candidates also need to submit proof of graduation provisional certificates at the time of SSB Interview.

Physical Standards

  • Candidate should be in good physical and mental health and free from any disability and disease.
  • Candidate should maintain proper weight.
  • Minimum height of male candidates should be 157.5 cms (157 cms for Navy and 162.5 cms for Air Force).
  • The minimum acceptable height for women candidates is 152 cms.
  • Gorkhas and candidates belonging to hilly areas of North-East, Garhwali and Kumaon are eligible for 5 cms. relaxation in height.
  • Candidates belonging to Lakshadweep are eligible for 2 cms. relaxation in height.

Note: The relaxation in height as stated above is not applicable for Navy and Air Force.

CDS Eligibility Criteria 2022: Highlights

  • Candidates are recommended that apply online for CDS 2022 exam only after verifying eligibility requirements.
  • Do not conceal any facts in respect to eligibility criteria.
  • A candidate who provides false information may face disciplinary action.
  • The only appearance in the exam does not mean that the candidate is fit for selection or job. Candidates have to clear written exam followed by SSB interview.
  • The competent authority has all rights reserved to take call on selection. The selection of any individual will be finalized on the basis of written exam performance, SSB interview followed by document verification.
